In a significant development, Dan Finlay — co-founder and developer of leading self-custodial software crypto wallet MetaMask — announced that he is resigning from Consensys. In a post on his official X account, Finlay cited burnout as the primary trigger behind the move.
“Today is my last day at Consensys, where I’ve been building MetaMask for over ten years. I’m burned out and need to spend time with my family. Wishing the team the best — they have an amazing road ahead of them,” he said on his post on X.
Further, Finlay also mentioned the rollout of MetaMask’s latest feature, “Advanced Permissions,” which gives users more control over how decentralized applications interact with their wallets.
MetaMask was launched in 2016 under Consensys by Dan Finlay and Aaron Davis. It is a leading self-custodial software cryptocurrency wallet and browser extension developed by ConsenSys that enables users to manage Ethereum-based tokens, interact with decentralized applications, and further explore Web3. Over the past decade since its launch, according to third-party estimates, MetaMask’s global installations have surpassed 100 million, with around 30 million monthly active users.
Finlay’s resignation comes the same week popular Bitcoin advocate and podcaster Preston Pysh also announced that he is moving away from public work to focus on his family.
